It is our great pleasure and honor to have Professor Zhong Lin Wang from Georgia Institute of Technology as the first speaker of our fall semester seminar series.  Professor Wang, with total citation of over 43,000 times and H-index of 102, is a true pioneer of nanoscience and technology.  Professor Wang has made original and innovative contributions to the synthesis, discovery, characterization and understanding of fundamental physical properties of oxide nanobelts and nanowires, as well as applications of nanowires in energy sciences, electronics, optoelectronics and biological science.

Dear All CEER members:

We are delighted to announce that MIT CEER and MIT CSSA have recently reached an agreement to co-sponsor MIT China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (MIT CHIEF) in the coming November. MIT-CHIEF is an MIT based annual conference that aims to promote the collaboration between US and China in areas of technical innovation and entrepreneurship. This forum will be composed of keynote speeches from well-known experts, panel discussions on highlighted topics, technical showcases, as well as an entrepreneurship contest. The event will be held on Nov 19th and 20th in MIT Stata Center. The forum has received strong supports from our advisers - Prof. Gang Chen of Dept. Mechanical Engineering, and Prof. Yasheng Huang of Sloan School of Management. Other confirmed speaker includes Wang Shi, the former CEO of Vanke Group, and Xu Xiaoping, the Founder of Zhen Fund and Co-Founder of New Oriental Education. MIT Energy Initiative (EI) is launching an energy technology and policy training program for Chinese leaders in government, industry and the academy. About 5-6 student volunteers will be needed to work closely with the project for material translations (English to Chinese) during Apr 12-27.

 

*Requirement:

1) Engineering background in Energy and climate change, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, etc.

2) Proficiency written Chinese and English language ability.3) MIT students or postdocs are preferred.

This year’s MIT Clean Energy Prize, a competition sponsored by Massachusetts utility company NSTAR and the U.S. Department of Energy, drew 80 entries from 47 universities around the country. The top prize of $200,000, selected yesterday by a team of judges representing industry, venture capital, government and academia, went to a team called Cool Chip Technologies, made up of three graduate students from MIT’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) and Sloan School of Management.

Abstract: Research on Combustion and Pollutants Emission Control at the Group for Low-Carbon Clean EnergyPresentation time: March 1st for 2 hoursOutline: I will briefly introduce our research activities in the areas of coal combustion/gasification and pollutants emission control. They cover projects on CO2capture, fluidized bed combustion and gasification, high pressure dense phase pulverized coal/biomass pneumatic convey, incineration and energy recovery of solid waste and high concentration organic effluent, emission and control of SO2, NOx, Hg, trace element, heavy metal and PM2.5 from coal combustion, coal/petcoke water slurry transportation and atomization etc.. I will describe in more detail our project on CO2capture including oxy-coal combustion experiment and simulation, calcinations/carbonation looping of calcium-based sorbent, CO2 capture using solid potassium-based sorbent.
